About Our School

Light Years School is proud to be part of Light Years Education Ltd.

Thank you for your interest in Light Years School.

We are an organisation deeply committed to improving the lives of children and young people with a range of special educational needs. Light Years School was founded to provide safe and nurturing school environment in which children could thrive.

We place as much importance on a child’s academic progress as we do their emotional and personal growth. Our motto; ‘start small, grow tall’ symbolises the individual journey every child makes during their time at one of our schools.

Our inclusive school starts with our inclusive culture, develops through our curriculum and thrives in our environment.

Our valuesUnderstanding, Acceptance, Celebrate, Resilience, Courage and Kindness, form the foundation for how our school operates and we place the child at the centre of every decision we make. We are proud to have been recognised by Ofsted as an ‘Outstanding’ education provider and look forward to growing as a school and supporting many more children in the future.

 Our School Environment

Our classrooms

Light Years School provides a small, nurturing environment that ensures pupils feel safe and secure.  We have designed our classrooms with the children’s mental health and well-being at the core.  Our spaces have been specifically designed to ensure that the learning environment is:

 - Neurodiverse Sensitive
 - Low sensory stimulating
 - Attachment aware
 - Trauma informed
 - Calm, relaxed and inclusive

Classrooms are designed to help remove potential barriers around entering a typical classroom or learning environment.  We provide a mixture of soft furnishing and sensory items to allow pupils to learn successful regulation strategies, ensuring they are ready to learn.

Pupils will also be supported with the use of visual aids to develop effective communication and understanding of the educational setting. Pupils will benefit from a universal approach that makes the learning environment accessible and predictable, reducing anxiety and increasing confidence.
