Light Years School are delighted to have partnered with Education Catering to provide hot meals to all of our pupils. School meals are paid for by Light Years School as part of our commitment to ensuring pupils have a healthy lunch option.
A registered dietician has been responsible for ensuring Hampshire Catering provide nutritious school meals for children with special diets since 2017. They work closely with a food development team to ensure all the food they serve is tasty, healthy and compliant with school food regulations. Hampshire Catering have worked hard to reduce sugar in our school meals. When planning menus they look to use reduced sugar recipes, reduce the amount of added sugar and add more fruit to our desserts. They no longer include salt in our recipes. Our catering teams are not allowed to add salt to their cooking at all, and are encouraged to use spices and herbs to flavour dishes. Menus are sent home every term so you can see the choices available. Every day the children are able to select between:
Traditional (RED), Vegetarian (GREEN) or Jacket Potato (WHITE)

Packed Lunches can also be brought in from home. We do ask for these to be suitable for school
with healthy options, ie no chocolate or fizzy drinks.

Does your child need a medical special diet to eat lunch at school?
If so, you need to create an account to register your child for a medical special diet.
Once you have created your account, we will be able to review your medical evidence with our NHS dietician in order to devise an adapted menu for your child's school lunch. Living with allergies comes with its own set of rules so when it comes to food, as education caterers, we want to make this as easy as possible for you as a family. Our staff are trained in food safety and regularly update their skills on allergens. We never underestimate the dangers of food allergies and intolerances and that's why we work hard to get it right.
