Multi Sensory

At Light Years School, we have embedded a multi-sensory approach to learning that engages students through various sensory modalities—visual, auditory, tactile, and emotional. This holistic method not only enhances memory retention but also supports the diverse needs of all learners, including those with special educational needs. Research indicates that the multi-sensory approach is particularly beneficial, as it caters to different learning styles and fosters an inclusive classroom environment. Studies have shown that students who engage with material in multiple ways are more likely to develop a deeper understanding and connection to the content.

Our commitment to this approach is reflected in our whole-school ethos. We have partnered with distinguished multi-sensory expert Dr Susie Nyman, whose insights have been pivotal in shaping our educational provision. Dr Nyman has worked closely with our staff to equip them with the necessary tools and strategies for effective multi-sensory teaching. As a result, all lessons at Light Years School are infused with multi-sensory instruction, ensuring that every student can connect with the curriculum in a meaningful way.

Further enriching our students' experiences, we provide a dedicated multi-sensory tuff tray available daily during breaks and outdoor time. This hands-on, interactive space allows children to explore and engage with various materials, fostering creativity and cognitive development in an informal setting.

The multi-sensory approach at Light Years School, therefore, is not merely an instructional strategy; it is an integral part of our educational philosophy, designed to inspire a lifelong love of learning in every child. By embracing this approach, we believe we are laying the foundation for success and personal growth, nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared to thrive in an increasingly complex world.
